Extended turning lanes on Morayfield Road to improve traffic flows

08 June 2015

Local residents shopping at the Morayfield Supa Centre will soon enjoy safer access from Morayfield Road.

State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP welcomed the news that road works to extend the turning lanes from Morayfield Road into the Morayfield Supa Centre would soon commence.

“These extended turning lanes from Morayfield Road into the Morayfield Supa Centre will improve traffic flows, ease congestion and provide safer access for motorists,” Mr Ryan said.

Roads, Road Safety and Ports Minister Mark Bailey said improving access for traffic turning right into the shopping precinct would help ease congestion on Morayfield Road.

“About 19,000 vehicles travel this section of Morayfield Road every day which makes it important to keep the network flowing,” Mr Bailey said.

“Extending the right turn lanes at the two Supa Centre intersections will allow more vehicles to safely queue along Morayfield Road before turning.

“It will also improve motorist safety by reducing the risk of rear-end crashes at the intersections on Morayfield Road.”

Mr Bailey said the works were part of the Woolworths’ development approval conditions at the Supa Centre in Morayfield which was finished in 2014.

“Works are scheduled shortly and will take up to three weeks to complete, weather permitting,” he said.

“To minimise impacts to motorists, works will generally be at night between Sunday and Wednesday, 6pm to 6am and Thursday nights outside peak shopping.”

Lane closures, traffic controllers, reduced speed limits and road signage will be in place to ensure the safety of motorists and road workers.
