Free TAFE for School Leavers

04 September 2018

State Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan has hailed the Palaszczuk Government’s new program of Free TAFE for Year 12 graduates as a game changer for school-leavers in the Caboolture region.

Mr Ryan said the Free TAFE program enables Year 12 graduates the opportunity to take up free-of-charge training in the year after they leave school.

“Local school leavers will now be able to kick-start their careers by learning skills and earning valuable qualifications, without the financial burden of student contribution fees,” he said.

“Cost can be a real determining factor for students and parents when considering what path to take at the end of year 12.

“So this offer of Free TAFE, with almost 160 qualifications available, is a genuine game changer for young people in our region.”

Mr Ryan said the Queensland Government will cover the full cost of TAFE in a high priority qualification delivered under this initiative. This means eligible Year 12 graduates will not pay any student contribution fees, although they may incur costs for related items such as uniforms and resources for apprentices and trainees.

“Parents and students should go online to the Free TAFE website where you can see the courses that are included in this fantastic initiative,” Mr Ryan said.

“This list of courses was developed with advice from industry, based on the skills most in demand by employers here in Queensland.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to investing in our young people to ensure they have the training needed to gain employment and build a career”.
