Free year of playgroup for our newest generation

10 March 2016

State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP, today welcomed a state government partnership which will offer a free year of playgroup for our youngest Queenslanders.

Mr Ryan said from 1 July 2016 parents simply had to register with Playgroup Queensland before their child’s first birthday to receive a free 12 months membership.

“This membership offer will allow families access to Playgroup Queensland-affiliated playgroups,” Mr Ryan said.

“Playgroups offer a wide variety of quality experiences that support young children’s learning and development through play.

“I encourage parents to take advantage of this great opportunity to have their children engaged in social activities from the earliest possible age and to build their own networks with other parents.”

Education Minister Kate Jones said a child’s early learning experiences were crucial to their long-term development.

“We know children need loving relationships and a stimulating environment to thrive,” Ms Jones said.

“The state government’s five-year partnership with peak body Playgroup Queensland means our youngest Queenslanders can now reap the lifelong benefits that playgroups provide.”

Ms Jones said the move was part of the government’s commitment to create opportunities for all children to access quality early years experiences, regardless of their circumstances or where they live.
