Jets fly high (in Burpengary)

02 February 2016

Burpengary Jets Netball Club players and supporters have cause to celebrate in 2016 by gaining over $58,000 in Queensland Government funding to upgrade the Club’s facilities.

The Club will receive over $20,000 from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund to construct a new storage/operations shed and over $38,000 from the Get Playing Places and Spaces Fund to repair and upgrade the Club’s playing courts.

State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP, who assisted the Club with the application process, said the Burpengary Jets Netball Club has a long history and is an integral part of the sporting and social fabric of the community.

“Clubs like the Jets are the heart and soul of our community, promoting a friendly, competitive atmosphere while fostering a cooperative spirit,” Mr Ryan said.

“The Queensland Government is committed to supporting local sport and recreation and I’m very pleased that the Jets have been successful with its recent grant applications.”

Burpengary Jets Netball Club President Martin Fagg said that the grants were important to the club and would ensure that it remained responsive to growing community interest in Netball.

“We’ve had very high demand in recent years and the court upgrade will allow us to capitalise on that by ensuring we have enough playing spaces to meet demand,” Mr Fagg said.

“It will also open up the courts for more use by the community and, importantly, by local schools who have expressed interest in utilising the courts.

“Our club – and local netball – will continue to grow in leaps and bounds as a result of these projects.”

The Get Playing Places and Spaces Fund provides grants of up to $100,000 to sport and recreation clubs for infrastructure projects. It is one part of the State Government’s Get in the Game funding program to encourage Queenslanders to participate in sport and recreation.

The latest round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund is now open and will close at the end of February 2016. More information can be found at www.justice.qld.gov.au/grants
