Seniors Week subsidies open for local organisations

03 February 2016

Community organisations in the Caboolture region are encouraged to apply for a subsidy of up to $1,000 to run activities and events during Seniors Week 2016.

State Member for Morayfield, Mark Ryan MP, said Seniors Week provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the valuable contribution of older people in the community.

“We know that seniors are often at the heart of our families, but it’s also important we acknowledge the significant contribution they make to the wider community,” Mr Ryan said.

“Whether that’s caring for grandchildren, being the driving force behind a community group or sharing knowledge and experience with younger generations, the contribution of seniors to our community is worth acknowledging.

“These subsidies are a great way to help fund events during Seniors Week, to help show our appreciation for the important role of seniors in our community.”

Mr Ryan said Seniors Week aligned with the Queensland Government’s vision of building an age-friendly community.

Seniors Week will run in Queensland from 13 – 21 August 2016 with the theme of It’s on for young & old. Applications for subsidies opened on 1 February 2016 and close 31 March 2016.

A total of $100,000 has been allocated for Seniors Week event subsidies, which will be administered by the Council on the Ageing Queensland (COTAQ).
